Autumn Retreat

Dimensions: 30" x 15"
Media: Oil

This painting is one of three created in memory of Secundino Sandoval who passed away in 2022. I consider him to be one of the best artists of our time and a simply wonderful human who I had the honor of knowing and interacting with as a fellow New Mexico artist and friend. He is greatly missed. The painting shows beautiful aspen trees during the fall season in the Santa Fe National Forest. When the painting was inspired, it was approaching the end of fall and you could almost see and feel the cold winter approaching and autumn retreating before the harsh winter weather. The Santa Fe National Forest is a stunningly beautiful national forest established in 1915 covering over one and a half million acres with elevations ranging from 5,300 feet to over 13,000 feet at Truchas Peak. You could spend a lifetime exploring this beautiful terrain, including a number of streams, rivers, and lakes, without running out of new and beautiful locations to explore. Autumn brings beautiful colors to the mountains as the leaves change to shades of yellow, orange, and red before giving way to winter. Winter in the Santa Fe National Forest is beautiful in its own way as the snow creates vivid and beautiful scenery in the majestic mountains.
