This painting was inspired by a beautiful white baby donkey seen near Raton, New Mexico. Raton is in the very north/east corner of the state just a few miles south of Colorado and about 85 miles west of Texas. Raton was established in 1880 and was known as Willow Springs before that time. The city is in a beautiful location in the mountains along what was once the Santa Fe Trail. The city may be small but it’s beautiful, the people are wonderful, and the natural beauty of the surrounding area is absolutely stunning.
