This picture was inspired by the area near Carlsbad New Mexico. While the Bluebonnet flowers are far more famous in Texas, they can be found in various parts of New Mexico. Carlsbad is a small city in the southeastern part of the state. The area is incredibly beautiful sitting near the edge of the Guadalupe Mountains with the Pecos River flowing nearby. The city is most famous for the Carlsbad Caverns National Park nearby which includes 80 caves in one of the largest cave systems in the world (the entire system includes over 300 caves). Carlsbad Caverns National Park is somewhat out of the way but it is in incredible experience for the natural beauty of the caves as well as the fascinating visitor center and the seasonal bat viewing experience.
