This painting was inspired a beautiful sunflower with a lovely bird resting on it along a road near Clovis New Mexico. Clovis, along interstate 84 near the border with Texas on the east side of New Mexico, is a primarily agricultural community with a pollution of around forty-thousand people. The city of Clovis formed in 1906 and was incorporate in 1909 but the area is said to have had human residents for over twelve thousand years and is likely home to the ancestors of most native populations of the Americas after travelling across the Bering Strait and settling in the area where they hunted bison, mammoth, and other native animals.

Today, Clovis is still primarily agricultural and is also home to Cannon Air Force Base. Many visitors to Clovis also enjoy stopping by Fort Sumner and Santa Rosa and their way to, or from, Albuquerque while visiting Clovis.
