This painting depicts a scene approximately twenty miles south of Santa Fe, looking west towards the Jemez Mountains. The area is beautiful with the arid New Mexico landscape in the foreground and stunning views of the mountains in the background. The road between Santa Fe and Albuquerque is well travelled with Albuquerque being the largest city in the state and Santa Fe being the capital. Albuquerque contains the International airport so many visitors fly into the city and enjoy the numerous museums, parks, excellent dining, and unique attractions such as the Sandia Peak Tramway which has stunning views of the mountains and of the city during the ride and at the top of the mountain. The drive from Albuquerque to Santa Fe is approximately one hour and passes through a number of small towns and Native American reservations (many of which have casinos adjacent to the road). Another great option for travelling between the two cities is the train (New Mexico Rail Runner) which makes for a relaxing ride offering stunning views that can’t be seen driving along the interstate.
