Ready to Ride

Dimensions: 16" x 20"
Media: Oil

This painting was inspired by some of the stunning New Mexico wild horses. As a young girl, Maria developed a love for horses as she raised her own horse in Alameda near Albuquerque. While the wild mustangs of New Mexico are certainly not literally "ready to ride", they are stunningly beautiful to look at if you should be lucky enough to spot them in the wild. There are a number of wild horse populations in New Mexico that have lived in the area for hundreds of years and one famous example is the Jicarilla Wild Horse Territory in Northern New Mexico. This stunning land was preserved in 1971 by the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act and consists of 76,000 acres ranging from desert to mountains around 8,000 feet in the base of the Rocky Mountains.
