Santa Fe Spring

Dimensions: 16" x 20"
Media: Oil

This painting was inspired by one of the many beautiful adobe buildings in Santa Fe. The warm adobe surrounded by colorful trees, bushes, and plants made this house look particularly beautiful and 100% New Mexican. Adobe (made from dirt, straw, grass, and other organic materials) has been used for thousands of years and is common in traditional buildings in New Mexico because it is easy to build using naturally found materials, it holds up well in the climate, and the solid thick walls help insulate houses both in summer and winter. Part of the charm and warmth of Santa Fe comes from the countless buildings that continue to be constructed with traditional adobe.

Santa Fe is the oldest state capital in the United States. It was founded as a Spanish colony in 1608 and became capital of the territory in 1610. Santa Fe is also the highest elevation state capital in the United States at 7,000 feet above sea level. Santa Fe also has the oldest road built by Europeans in the United States and is the 3rd largest art market in the United States. Santa Fe is a stunningly unique and beautiful city with rich heritage, culture, and history that make it an incredible place to visit!
